Spring Equinox Despacho Guide

Lovely to hear from you — here’s the ceremony I mentioned.

If anything comes up for you as you move through it, you’re always welcome to share. This is a powerful time of year for gentle shifts.

A Simple Spring Equinox Despacho Ceremony

The Spring Equinox is a moment of perfect balance.

For a brief point in the year, day and night are equal. Light and dark stand side by side before the light gradually begins to advance.

Across many traditions, this time has been honoured as a moment of renewal, intention and realignment.

In the Andean tradition, one way of restoring harmony with ourselves and the world is through a Despacho Ceremony.

A despacho is a sacred offering — a way of expressing gratitude, releasing what is complete, and planting energetic seeds for what we wish to grow.

You do not need elaborate materials or perfect ritual. What matters most is your intention and presence.

Preparing Your Space

Find a quiet moment where you won’t be disturbed.

You may wish to:

• Light a candle

• Sit outside or near a window

• Take a few slow breaths to arrive in the moment

Allow yourself to pause long enough to feel present.

What You Will Need

You can use simple items from your kitchen or garden.

For example:

• A piece of paper or cloth

• Seeds or grains

• Flower petals or leaves

• A little sugar or honey

• Something symbolic of gratitude

• A piece of paper and pen

There is no right or wrong selection — choose what feels meaningful.

Step 1: Gratitude

Begin by placing a few items onto your cloth or paper.

As you place each one, speak (silently or aloud) something you are grateful for.

This might include:

• people who support you

• lessons from the past year

• moments of beauty or growth

Allow yourself to truly feel appreciation.

Step 2: Release

Write down anything you feel ready to let go of.

Old patterns

Heavy emotions

Expectations that no longer serve you

Fold the paper and place it into your despacho.

This is your acknowledgement that something has completed its time in your life.

Step 3: New Seeds

Now consider what you wish to invite into the coming season.

Peace

Clarity

Courage

Creativity

Rest

Add something symbolic — perhaps seeds, grains, or petals — while holding your intention gently in your awareness.

Step 4: Closing the Ceremony

When you feel complete, gather the items together and wrap them.

If it feels appropriate, you may offer the despacho to fire, allowing transformation to take place.

If fire isn’t possible, you can instead:

• bury it in the earth

• leave it under a tree

• place it somewhere in nature

Offer a final moment of gratitude and close the ritual.

A Final Thought

Ceremony is simply a way of pausing long enough to listen.

The Spring Equinox reminds us that balance is always possible — both in the natural world and within ourselves.

May this small ritual help you release what has grown heavy and welcome what is ready to emerge.

If you feel called to go deeper with this work, I offer:

• Reiki and energy healing

• sound healing sessions

• shamanic work

and more.
